Text of abstract The zebrafish has recently become established as a model organism to study development. Even more recently, its use has been extended to include the study of paired limb development. Two large scale screens have been conducted with the zebrafish at the Max-Planck Institute for Developmental Biology in Tuebingen, Germany, with the aim of saturating the genome for mutants involved in embryonic development. Among the many mutants isolated is a collection of limb mutants. Here, we will give an overview of the mutants identified in the two screens, summarizing the different classes that were found. We will also discuss whether the original aim of saturation has been achieved for limb mutants, and we will outline the most common phenotypic combinations that were found.
